So,
I just completed the first act of the campaign and it had its ups and downs.
Gameplay wise, I think it's not bad. You start with a decent army (minotaurs are very effective as starter units) and over the course of the missions are able to use towns which, although their building options are heavily restricted, do give you the oppertunity to amass somewhat of an army. In the later missions, you can actually build the city similiar to how you'd do it in non-story modes.
When it comes to the characters, I have somewhat mixed opinions. Gunnur is decent, the elemental/forest hero who joins you early on seems interesting, even if his dialogue is a bit boring.
Then, the necromancer joined and he doesn't really feel that special, even if he is meant to be different than the other necromancers. It's cool that he starts with a ton of skeletons tho, that's fairly decent
Lastly, the enemy temple hero joins you and begins her redemption, which is definitly not fleshed out, which is ok imo since this was only the first act.
The dialogue overall is not particulary interesting. Gunnur sometimes farms aura when he's like "are you sure u wanna challenge the might of the triumvirate?" and then he beats his opponents
Aside from that, the triumvirate has a lot of lines, which are not particular good, but it never felt boring, so I'd give it a 5/10
The overall story begins with Gunnur enforcing the will of the Triumvirate against temple knights and necros (so normal fantasy-medieval era hard power) with the added aspect of him coming across hive units here and there, who are a curiosity at first, before it becomes clear that they're an actual threat which builds up as the campaign progresses.
The final mission has you defending the capital against hive's big boss, in which you defend the city against several armies before he appears and your leaders realize they're outmatched, ordering your retreat. You leave one hero behind, who loses the siege but seems to flee through the underground tunnels, while your other heroes evecuate the villages nearby and then flee north. When that is done, a cutscene appears and Hive's boss has a villain monologue in which schism is teased. That's when act one ends.
My thoughts: I think the story will progress with hive beating the living piss out of the other factions, before schism summons some eldritch horror which eats hive's armies for lunch. The end
(No, I definitly am not biased towards schism)
