So I first got 90 percent from the VA , and then got TDIU. I have been on TDIU for 10 years now and from everything I can gather from my VA documents my TDIU is considered permanent and total and I haven't had to fill out the employment survey in years. Sitting around the house all day was not good for my mental health so I started volunteering at my local family center helping other veterans (the majority of which are older vietnam vets) navigate the VA and request their records or link them up with businesses willing to do work for them for below market rates (sometimes even free). I really enjoy helping other vets and the board of directors (two of which are also vets) at the family center have offered me a job doing what I do on a volunteer basis a few times a month, but as a paid position and full time. I told them that I can't because even though I am permanent and total on TDIU, I am still on TDIU. The vets on the board told me that they know a way around that by way of employing me in a protected environment. They said that because we are a nonprofit, I would be working in a department of one, can set and work my own hours, and they would sign a memorandum of understanding saying they acknowledge my PTSD and that I can't be fired, that it would count as a "protected work environment" and that I could work and not jeopardize my TDIU. Don't get me wrong I would love to make an extra 45k a year helping vets and vastly improve my family's financial position, but losing my TDIU would lose me my retirement plan, 1600 bucks a month and my wife and kid's insurance. Has anyone on TDIU been able to work above the like 15k they say we can make a year and kept their TDIU? Thanks yall
