i´m rebuilding our Master Images with Win11 and encountered performance issues with 3D workload.
this new machines are created on a new Delivery Controller / Store, i´ve copied all the 3D related policies from the old DC but get much worse results. the Machines itself live on the same server with same GPU with same or better specs.
when i´m connected to the Master Image with RDP the performance is great. i can rotate 3D models almost without noticeable performance difference compared to a classic Workstation PC.
but when i connect to the Machine Catalog with Workspace App the experience is really bad. the Machine itself works great. but as soon as you start to rotate something it´s like 5 FPS.
the more i read about this stuff the more confused i get. all the compression codecs, 4:4:4, 4:4:2, 4:2:2, client capabilities etc. it all gets really confusing.
i tried many combinations of different settings but the improvements are minimal.
the most important are probably Use video codec for compression, Optimize for 3D workload, Allow visually lossless compression. different combinations of this settings trigger completely different behavior. but non of them are satisfying.
VDA is 2507 CU1, WorkspaceApp also 2507 CU1, client Laptops are Dell Precision with i7 and dedicated nvidia GPU. so the encoding on client side shouldn't be a problem.
worker Machines are hosted on Dell servers (vmware) with XeonGold CPUs and Nvidia A40 GPUs.
what policies should i set to get anywhere near the performance that i get when i connect to the same Machines over RDP?
Windows10 Machines hosted on the same server work much better. not perfect. but acceptable.
