Older male teacher.

Long story short, I always wanted to be an elementary school teacher. Dad got sick in my late twenties passed away, started drinking really hard, over The last 5 years sobered up became a stay at home parent and rekindled my love to be a teacher. I decided to start back school up in the fall for teaching and minor in Spanish ( hoping to find a rural School district in Washington my wife's nurse they pay "high" for both). A couple questions is 42 too old to start? I will be almost 50 when I start. Do you think I'm at a disadvantage being an older male? Is this a crazy idea?! I'm also aware the pay is not ideal but I'm making nothing now and going back to the restaurant industry feels like it's lost its luster, I want something I can feel proud about. Even if I don't make a ton.
