new to UC, confused & miserable

Hi everyone
I’m a 31 year old female, with no prior medical hx other than 3 babies. Had never even taken pepto in my life! Lol

About 1.5 months ago I began experiencing cramping, urgency & diarrhea. Within moments of eating or drinking anything. This escalated to seeing blood in my diarrhea.

I began seeing a GI dr. My calprotectin was 4100 and my CRP was 29. They booked me for an urgent colonoscopy.

During this, my symptoms resolved! For about 5 days. Then I had my colonoscopy…….They found pancolitis & took biopsies with high suspicion of UC.

Now I’m 3 days post-colonoscopy and I’m right back where I was….running to the bathroom every 15-30 min. I’m conflicted on what I should do. The doctor called in Asacol & prednisone. But I’ve read scary things on both!!
Would these medications be forever? Or just during a flare?
Should I ask for something….lighter?
I very rarely take medications, but I know I need to. It just makes me anxious.

Oh and I’m breastfeeding 😂 just to add a layer of concern regarding meds
