Hey everyone,

I’ve been trying to better understand how Turnitin’s AI detection actually works, and I was hoping to hear from people who’ve had real experience with it.

From what I’ve gathered, it doesn’t just check for plagiarism anymore but also tries to identify patterns that suggest AI-generated writing. But what exactly does it look for in a piece of work? Is it more about writing style, predictability, sentence structure, or something else entirely? And how reliable have you found it in practice?

I’m also particularly curious about how well it works in languages other than English. Has anyone here used Turnitin with texts in Estonian, Latvian, or Lithuanian? If so, how accurate did it seem? Did it flag content correctly, or were there false positives/negatives?

Alongside that, how does Turnitin actually label something as plagiarism? What is it based on—direct matches to sources, similarity thresholds, or something more nuanced?

Any insights, experiences, or even skepticism about how it functions would be really helpful.

Thanks!
