Criminal injuries Claim (CICA) for Complex PTSD, Domestic Abuse and Rape advice
Hi everyone
I am considering making a criminal injury compensation claim (CICA) due to having been a victim of domestic abuse and rape (by multiple perpetrators). As a result, I have been diagnosed with severe Complex PTSD. Also, I have received a recent eating disorder diagnosis. The psychiatrist that diagnosed the eating disorder felt it had been triggered by the most recent experience of domestic abuse (multiple incidences of rape, coercive control, voyeurism, non fatal strangulation) and that it had become a coping mechanism to deal with complex trauma. I am thinking to claim for the most recent perpetrator and any others that I might be able to include within the claim (I.e., perpetrators I’ve reported to the police). The impact of the abuse I have endured has had a significant impact on my life.
I am thinking of seeking the help of a solicitor on a no win no fee basis because I think I would struggle to complete the claim myself due to not being in the best place mentally and having additional learning needs that make completing lengthy written tasks difficult for me.
I would be grateful for peoples thoughts on whether I have a good case for a claim and anyone’s experience with the process. Thank you.
