Hi there! I live in Illinois - Chicago to be more specific and some coworkers and I have been confused for quite some time just how breaks/pay/hours work at our company. Ill give a brief rundown of our schedule.
Everyone is required to work 8-5PM
Mandatory 12-minute break at 10:30AM which you must clock out for
Mandatory 1-hour lunch which you clock out for
Mandatory 12-minute break at 3:30PM which you must clock out for.
We are told the breaks are paid for and added back on to our time, but I am not entirely sure or how. Anytime you ask HR how the process works, they clearly tense up and just say “dont worry, itll be added on.” My coworkers and myself are not trying to accuse them of doing anything shady and/or illegal, but that they clearly get defensive when asked exactly how these breaks operate. Is there something about this that we are missing? Or just not completely understanding? Thank you all very much for reading this and taking the time to help.
