Hiiii friends. Trying to make this super long story as short as possible. I have recently gone gluten free after about a year and a half of chronic constipation. I am pretty sure I have IBS. I recently went to a GI doc finally bc I’ve been having horrendous silent acid reflux for the first time in my life for about eight months now. The GI doc was really awful, I left in tears, he wrote me a script for constipation and told me to manage my stress. My job is not stressful nor is my life I am the happiest and physically/mentally in the best place I’ve ever been. But my gut issues are so bad. I was hoping he’d tell me to do an elimination diet but it was really the worst worst experience. He told me it couldn’t be gluten because gluten intolerance gives people diarrhea and not constipation (eye roll). So many things. So I am trying to get into another doc but meanwhile as I’m discouraged I’m eliminating gluten and going from there. Since I think IBS could be at play, I’m trying to minimize lactose but I haven’t been like all in strict on that and the other things on the fodmap guide so far since I wanted to see how the gluten changed things. I think it’s been around 10 days and I haven’t had to use a suppository at all or had bad constipation or bloating or stomach pains leading me to believe I’m on a good track. But the last three days I have had extremely loose stool and/or diarrhea.
I know I still need to get to the doctor but this has been such a frustrating and expensive process (3 trips to the ear nose throat doc w post nasal drip before they finally realized it was silent reflux). Has this been anyone else’s experience? Is my gut just getting used to the new diet? Or amount of fiber?
I’m tracking my food now so hopefully I can find patterns but it’s hard when there’s so many foods on the list for fodmaps like do I need to literally eliminate everything?
