Bombers are unstoppable. Do you ever refuse to build them in your games?

I’ve played 100 hours on ps5, probably 3-4x that on my PC, and the AI can never stop bombers, even on deity.

My most recent Vietnamese deity game was really fun, in that i shared a continent with Persia and Rough Rider teddy. Portugal was on the coast, but basically blocked off from the rest of us save for 2 tiles by a huge mountain range. He never bothered anyone

Persia was close and charged me in the ancient era, which was promptly met with archers and a counteroffensive. For some reason, he locked in two wonders in his capital, and second city, and I razed his third. So I took him over quite nicely.

Teddy attacked in late classical, failed, but he already had crossbows and man at arms as he was #1 in science by ALOT. I attempted to swarm him with voi Chen, but couldn’t take any cities and we were at a stale mate. I held a grudge though

I eventually decided that the only way I was going to expand was to take down teddy. After a second failed war, I beelined bombers. With his unique unit, he was hitting 100-110 in combat strength against my units.

I made or purchased 4-5 bombers and began an extreme attrition battle where I would walk in a great general for sight, hit his city with bombs, then he’d send a unit out to cancel my great general. Over a dozen or two turns, I grinded out a few corps of his UU and took his city with a horseman when I reduced it to 0 health. I did this through the entire era and took him over, which led to a snowball and won the game

I faced off much later against Mzinga, who only ever made one anti air unit. The Point of the story being…..are bombers literally unstoppable by the AI? I feel like it’s a massive crutch because I know I can get bombers or jet bombers if all else fails and start sweeping other civs with a single melee or Cavalry unit. Even ones that have air support, usually only make one or two units and fail to use them. I had a war against Brazil who made a fighter, but only attacked with it once and then sent it away. As I took his other cities, he kept it based but never bothered to use it. Even if my win condition isint domination, I know I can utilize bombers to get any other win condition by destroying or capturing cities with districts and/or wonders I need. Except maybe religion (unless im spain >:.

I’m reaching a point where I feel like I should ban bombers from my games. Or maybe limit it to one to two somehow. It’s pretty rare that I don’t have atleast two aluminum sources. Do you do this and has ai ever countered bombers in your game?

I am a large map enjoyer, sometimes this means I’ve taken over two civs on a continent and end up with 30+ cities. This creates situations where I have cities where it’s a waste of gold and production to create units or mediocre districts.

In some of the late ages, I find that simply spamming units or building more infrastructure is either a waste of time and/or gold. I have a current game where my carriers and land army have crossed the ocean, where I have no settlements, and building more army is almost pointless since it would take a dozen or more turns to cross to the continent im at.

Often times, my options are aerodrome, encampment, entertainment complex, or awful adjacency campuses / theatre square/ economic districts. I have a city rn that has utilized chichen itza and lumber mills, and building more districts is actually worse than keeping those rainforest tiles intact. And just spamming out units eventually exhausts strategics and gold income, when I want to save the gold. to buy buildings or units elsewhere. In the mid to late game…is a +0 or +1 campus even worth the investment? And what’s worse is…even if I have massive gold and resources to support dozens of units….thats even more micromanaging

I sometimes find myself spamming projects, often unrelated to my win condition, just so I don’t have to micromanage the city constantly. It feels wasteful though. Other than, I’ll just pick a city that’s decent with production and pick a wonder to build. If I’m targeting a wonder, it’s usually in a specific city I’ve settled or taken early. But in my current Vietnam game, my goal was either domination or science (easiest wins for me on deity) and I’m building the Sydney opera house in a coastal city just because I can. I just spam traders in the city to jack up the production or use magnue / great engineers.

I actually had an Australia domination game where I crashed out and started razing every city towards the end of the game. It’s kind of annoying when you have 10 cities you spamming flood barriers. Is there a better way to utilize a lot of cities?
