Hi everyone! First Reddit post lol. I am a new PE teacher stressing about getting a job.

I live in the Suburbs and I initially want to teach in a suburban hs, but it’s been rough getting a job, most of these schools want experienced teachers or coaches. I was reached out by the principal at a CPS HS (pretty nice school) and basically offered me a position there. I had interviewed in person for another teaching position there but didn’t get it, but he told me he will have another vacancy and wants me to be apart of the team.

Obviously super happy about it. Only thing is I’m unsure about anything in CPS, the pay, the union, benefits. I was told that if I take the job and leave to a suburban HS In the future, I would start over in the step level because cps experience doesn’t roll over to suburban districts? I also don’t have to move to Chicago because I can receive a waiver, but I’m scared the commute is gonna drive me insane there and back. How does pension work? If I were to leave CPS and go to a suburban school ?

But I also love the area where the HS is, bunch of cute cafes, restaurants, I’ve always wanted to be a city girl and maybe I’ll want to move there in the near future???… But if this is my only option, I SHOULD take it right?

I am teaching summer school PE in a northside suburban HS, and they do need PE teachers, but I haven’t had a interview with them yet or don’t know if they’ll offer me the job yet.

I really want to start teaching this upcoming school year because I hate subbing and just want to start my career already. Please help a girl out!!
