i apologize in advance for the spiel, but i just have to get this out or else i’ll go insane thinking about it.
it started when my landlord moved in his ex-wife and their kids. she showed up on a random friday at 10pm to start moving her things in. i get it. the weekend starts the next day, but surely it’s not dramatic of me to have been pissed about that, ESPECIALLY because my landlord made no attempt to give us a heads up about it at all. maybe it would be different if this were a proper apartment building, but this is a family home that was converted into two apartments; we live, quite genuinely, on top of each other.
i knew then she was going to be a problem, but i like to consider myself a decent person, so i wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt somehow. maybe it was just a bad first impression — shit happens, whatever.
except: her moving in was how we found out the walls and ceiling are paper fucking thin. i know when one of the kids is sick because i can hear her coughing through the goddamn ceiling. doesn’t help that they decided it would be a smart move to put the teenager above the working-student couple’s bedroom. i don’t want to have any ill-will towards a child, but i feel like she’s plenty old enough to have some fucking courtesy. spoiler: she doesn’t!
she’d drop her phone on the floor at 2am and scare us both out of our sleep. she seems to rearrange her bedroom every morning, 6:30am sharp, to get ready for school. she belts at the top of her lungs every chance she gets. the other kid stomps down the stairs — every day — and it echos through our entire apartment. i’m so tired. i feel like i have no privacy. i have no peace. my entire life runs around their schedule. every night i go to sleep praying they’ll go to school the next day so i can at least have a few hours of perfect silence, but i’ve started to think they’re fucking homeschooled too.
oh— and now the landlord’s father lives on the property too. we only found that out because i had to text the landlord about the strange old man wandering around the property. i was worried there was a silver alert out!
and yesterday? the cops came knocking on our door looking for him. apparently the old man likes to leave the house and skulk around his ex wife’s property. he’s violated the no contact order multiple times, dating all the way back to 2022.
the only reason i haven’t gone fucking nuts on our landlord is because our lease is up in two months, and i am counting down every goddamn second until we’re free. we already have a new place secured. it’s just a matter of getting through the weeks.
i’m considering going off on him friday when we pay rent, but i don’t know. is it even worth it?
