Hi everyone, I need some advise. I recently bought a house with an unfinished room in the basement that used to be a bathroom. The previous owners started renovating it but left everything incomplete.
Right now there’s no flooring at all, just exposed dirt where the tile used to be. The plumbing was partially redone but left unfinished, and the electrical is exposed. They also removed the sink and toilet, and there’s a jacuzzi that’s been detached from the wall but is still sitting in the room. There are also some holes in the walls from running wires through to other rooms, so I’ll need to patch and clean that up too.

I know this is a big project, but I’m willing to put in the time and effort to get it done. My plan right now is to start with the plumbing and water supply lines, then move on to building the floor.

So far, I’m thinking:

  1. Clear out all debris and dig down to expose the plumbing
  2. Finish and properly set the plumbing lines
  3. Compact the soil
  4. Lay down a moisture/vapor barrier
  5. Pour a concrete slab over everything

I’ve never built a floor from scratch before, so I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or things I should watch out for, before I go ahead and start this project.

Thanks in advance!

(I included a picture of the floor currently and also the cut off when the basement flooring goes from finished tile to loose dirt)
