Mounjaro for PCOS explained
Hey all, I'm here to humbly ask for some help...
TL;DR: Can anyone explain to me, as concisely as possible, the beneficial effects of Mounjaro on PCOS. I don't mean in the first instance of "I'm taking a GLP-1, and I've lost weight, regulated my periods, etc". I know this first hand, it's doing this for me. I need to know on a scientific level, what does it actually do to hormones, inflammation, etc that affects us positively? How does it affect insulin resistance positively? I need to justify trying to access it via my weight loss management service next week, and need to have some answers ready, but getting bogged down in online searches, and having time to read journals and make notes is a struggle.
*A little more background info for context. Semi-Ranty so fair warning*
My mother first took me to the doctor age 14 when my periods suddenly stopped, a long time ago. Without so much as a palpation, the (male) doctor told me mother it was because I was pregnant (despite still having my v card). That was a very long afternoon trying to convince her of this, and to make another appt with a female doctor.
Since then, I have had years of bullshit from medical professionals regarding my PCOS, even as recently as 4-5 years ago (our NHS gynecologist told me and my husband it was my fault due to PCOS we were struggling to conceive when I asked for a semen analysis for him, so there was no need to test him. When we pushed back after three pointless months of clomid, turns out he has fertility issues as well, but what do I know).
So fast forward to now, and I'm currently on the waiting list for the NHS weight management service for Mounjaro. So far I've been paying privately. It has been life changing for me, the first sign of hope in an otherwise desolate PCOS landscape. I have to attend an online zoom course next week about nutrition, exercise, etc to lose weight. Not to sound arrogant, but I'm frustrated as I feel I have more than a rudimentary knowledge after literal years of research, trying this and that. My Fitbit history can attest to my dietary choices, macros, exercise classes, steps, and weight log which shows it barely moving. The difference between pre-mounjaro efforts and now, whenever I've eaten in any kind of calorie deficit before, I've ended up with horrendous headaches, horrible shaking, light headedness. I haven't experienced any of this while eating in a 500 calorie deficit while taking Mounjaro. I need to be able to explain why. I'm already pissed off that I'm going to be wasting an hour of my time being told to eat less and move more... I need a rebuttal.
Thank you so much if you took the time to read this absolute word salad. I really do appreciate it.
