Masterbuilt 710 opinions

Hi all,

I currently use a manual offset smoker, which I love, but longer cooks like brisket are a bit much when it comes to controlling temps manually overnight.

So I’m looking at getting an electric smoker for longer cooks where I can keep the temperature more stable without babysitting it all night.

I’d love a Masterbuilt 1050 or similar, but I just can’t justify that sort of money at the moment. I’ve been looking at the cheaper Masterbuilt 710 instead. I know it’s not a high-end smoker, but £200 is a lot easier on the wallet than £1,000 right now.

Has anyone used one for brisket or other longer cooks? How did you get on with it, and would you recommend it for that sort of thing?

Thanks in advance

Fishing Club and Reasonable Adjustments/Prescription medication use.

We have a member who has advised us that he is prescribed medical cannabis and has asked for permission to use it while fishing at our lakes. The medication contains 20% THC.

We are trying to work out how we can reasonably allow him access to his prescribed medication while also balancing our health and safety obligations as a fishing club. Our main concern is potential impairment around deep water, uneven banks, trip hazards, isolated swims, night fishing, sharp equipment, casting, and similar risks.

We are not looking to refuse his request outright. We are trying to balance reasonable adjustments with safety, insurance and safeguarding considerations.

The main condition we are considering is that, if he uses the medication while at the lake, he should not fish alone and should have another responsible person with him for safety. His membership already allows another person/carer to attend the lake with him free of charge.

Would this likely be considered a reasonable condition, or could it be seen as too restrictive?

We are also considering other conditions, such as requiring the medication to be used only in the prescribed manner, so with a vaporiser rather than smoking, kept in its prescription packaging, not shared with anyone else, and that he stops fishing after using it until he feels safe and able to continue.

I welcome any feedback or suggestions on this, specifically around it being restictive or reasonable
