“I’d like to start by saying it took me two whole weeks to keep reading this thing and write this miserable text. The manga isn’t long (in fact, I could have finished 6 volumes in a week, and I spent another week reading volumes 7 and 8 in English since the Portuguese scans translation team stopped at chapter 37—not even they could keep translating this thing anymore), each chapter has few pages (at least in volumes 1 and 2), but the fact that every word I read makes me check the Wiki already shows how much I’m loving this manga >!(no)!<”
Reimu arrives in the underground, and Satori asks if she found the spirit»
“But do I really have to say this again? Reimu walks in looking like she’s about to beat someone up, and Satori—who should’ve already read her mind—asks if she found the spirit??? Once again, Satori’s power here is literally an on/off switch that the script flips whenever it wants, even though that’s not how things work—so much so that it’s the very characteristic that makes satoris hated: they can’t stop reading minds even if they want to. Koishi is the example of what happens if they stop reading minds.”
Reimu explains that Ran sealed the spirits, but they don’t know which one is the right one, so they need Satori’s help. Satori asks how they know the spirit is there if they can’t even tell them apart. Reimu explains that it was the spirits’ movements that made them notice something different and asks if Satori will go, and Satori says she’d go just to see if it’s really true;

So why on earth is she arguing with Reimu about Yukari finding it instead of telling Reimu that the spirit wasn’t there anymore? Since she was so sure before? Meanwhile, Alice is still in a coma, and Marisa is taking care of her, wondering why she let Alice fall into a coma (exactly the same question I have, but mine is for ZUN). Marisa keeps wondering about this spirit—what its motivations are, what its plan is, and who its next target might be;
In Netherworld, Chen said they analyzed the spirits one by one and found that a total of 5% of the spirits had movement patterns different from normal and variations in spiritual power, meaning there was a high chance the infiltrated spirit was among them»

Satori asks how many spirits there were, and Chen… says there are several… and she high-fives Orin»

Reimu realizes it was all for nothing and asks where Ran was; Chen says she was making sure no spirits would escape, and they just wanted them to find the spirit quickly so they could leave soon»

Satori says they were wasting time because the spirit wasn’t there anymore, and it would have been faster to look for Marisa»

Yuyuko asks if the spirit wasn’t in Netherworld; Satori says she wasn’t sure since there was no way to confirm it»

Satori realizes that Reimu was mentally wondering how she could know the spirit so well, and she mentions the name by which it was known. Reimu says that might lead to a clue (finally, a mystery manga without a single clue isn’t… that’s foreshadowing, right?), Satori says there were reasons for this spirit to hate youkai, but especially… Hakurei Shirine, which might be one of the reasons the spirit hates Gensokyo and isn’t stealing energy from youkai without a purpose.
Wait… I… I read that… the spirit hates Gensokyo and the Hakurei Shrine… ZUN definitely wouldn’t do that… she wouldn’t come back… ZUN hates her, so… unfortunately not… it’s impossible for her to come back… False hope doesn’t work… now about the chapter… it was the least worst, again, Satori acting like an idiot and only using mind reading when the script deems it necessary… or unnecessary, I should say. Chen was the only thing that really bugged me, given that in none of her appearances (as far as I know) did she do any math to ultimately say there were many spirits in the area, but at least her art isn’t a hastily drawn sketch like Flandre’s in the first volume. Now, back then, ZUN gave us false hope that she was Mima (OMG, I RUINED THE SURPRISE 6 YEARS LATE—SHE’S NOT MIMA), but unfortunately she’s not coming back (and there’s no reason for her to, even if I wanted her to—there’s no reason for her to come back. Maybe if she returned as a cameo or even just a mention, it would be cool, but unfortunately, no), but hang in there—maybe we’ll get a clue about who this spirit is in this volume >!(spoiler: no)!<… I just hope the next chapter maintains the “quality” and doesn’t get worse
Chapter 9
Youmu arrives at the shrine and sees a sign saying it would be closed indefinitely. Even though Youmu calls out to Reimu, she slams the door in her face. Yuyuko arrives and says that Reimu kicked her out too. Youmu obviously asks what she did to get kicked out, and… Yuyuko says she took the things that were in the donation box, and Youmu is surprised that the box had anything in it>!»!<

They recap what Reimu had said (which was literally to lock the shrine so no one could enter) and Yuyuko even asks a rhetorical question asking if she seems possessed to them»

Youmu says Reimu was right since you couldn’t tell who was possessed and who wasn’t. Satori would say she could tell, but then Orin shows up and… the chapter ends.
I’m not even going to say anything here because the next chapter is going to be pure salt, given that Satori only knows how to point fingers without pointing to any evidence

Marisa was sitting there looking after Alice when Satori, Yuyuko, and Youmu arrived. Marisa said she’d gone to look for Reimu but couldn’t find her»
“Marisa… you literally ran off, and those clueless girls didn’t even notice? HOW CAN YOU TELL ME YOU WENT TO LOOK FOR REIMU!?”
In the Netherworld, there was only Chen, and she explains that while they were searching, there was another victim, and obviously Satori goes to check on Alice and finds it was the same cause as the others»

Yuyuko and the others tie up Marisa, and she says she had nothing to do with it, but Satori says she couldn’t have done it now, but she did it before, which helped the spirit»

Conclusion
This was definitely worse than Volume 1; not only did it fail to fix the previous issues, but it actually made things worse. It’s unbelievable—it feels like I’m reading an amateur doujinshi by someone who doesn’t even seem to know their own characters, yet it’s an official manga. But… at least the series was canceled due to the artist’s health issues, and I’m not happy to see others’ misfortune since, even though the artist draws terribly (seriously, there are times when even amateur art looked better than these first two volumes), he doesn’t deserve hate for what ZUN wrote. Now, as for ZUN? All the hate is deserved; he literally threw years of character development in the trash just to make a lame story that barely manages to connect the events of the games to the story itself. Well, at least we won’t have any more chapters and we can rest in peace knowing that no character will be misreprese— wait… volume 2 was released in 2021… it’s 2026 now. OH SHIT! I HAD FORGOTTEN THAT THEY SWITCHED ARTISTS AND ZUN KEPT GOING WITH THIS SHITTY MANGA! WHY, ZUN!? WHY!? WEREN’T THE FANS’ NEGATIVE REVIEWS ENOUGH TO STOP PRODUCTION!?
