Hi peeps , I’ve converted both IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore, and I’m really confused about which one to choose. I was initially quite set on Bangalore (didn’t expect to convert A), but now that I have both, I’m second-guessing everything.

My profile:

  • 23 months work ex as a data analyst
  • B.Tech (Chemical Engineering) from IIT Guwahati (CGPA: 7.9)
  • 10th: 90.29%, 12th: 86.46%

My concerns:

  1. Competition at IIM A: I feel like the peer group at A might be significantly stronger, and I’m worried I might not be able to compete effectively during internships/finals. So B feels a better option.
  2. Placements & relative performance: I have a feeling (not sure if correct) that I might end up doing relatively better at B and possibly land better roles there compared to A.
  3. Product Management roles: I’m interested in PM (not 100% sure yet). Does B have a noticeable edge here, or is it comparable at A?
  4. Diversity hiring at A: I’ve heard that some companies at A prefer non-engineers for diversity, which might disadvantage someone like me.
  5. Work experience factor at B: I’ve heard B has people with higher average work ex. With ~23 months, would I be at a disadvantage there for shortlists?
  6. Academic rigor at A: The acad intensity at A honestly scares me a lot, and I am just not able to put that thought aside as i don't work very well under highly stressful environments for very long.
  7. Brand Value : For me brand value of A is not too imp. i don't just want to go there blindly cause its A. And as far as I've heard, A and B are very much at par now. But at the same time people around me are saying just go to A. Really don't want to regret my choice later

Would really appreciate insights from current students/alumni on:

  • Whether these concerns are valid or overblown
  • How the two campuses actually differ in terms of outcomes and experience
  • What kind of profile would be a better fit for A vs B

Would love to hear the opinion of someone who chose B over A. Or any alumni from A who if had the opportunity to do an MBA again would chose B.

Thanks a lot!
