Best surgery ive ever had
So I thought id share my positive experience to try clear the air for some that are anxious. Might be a tad like a story but I want to be an open book
Issue:
Im 28 Male UK now (29 in july), but have had hemmys since I was around 24/25. They never really bothered me much other than it feeling like im pushing play-doh through a straw any time I needed to poop
At around 27 is when i started to get the most problems. Bleeding hemys minimal once a month some times twice. Could be from painting the bowl red to a light bleed when wiping. Was always a painful scary gamble.
My hemmys were all internal but post poop, the hung outside the sun roof for a while and eere clustered.
I got seen by 2 surgeons from different hospitals to be safe. 1 NHS 1 Private. Both done multiple stool tests, cameras etc and confirmed they are just hemmys and not something sinister (incredible relief for someone with crippling health anxiety)
I then went to my local GP and 6 months later where they both said I have 2 hemmys thay need banded and 1 needed cut off, its surgery day (April 28th, 2026)
Surgery/Recovery
Surgery was quick and easy. Post op i pretty much just went for a pee and then back home and straight to bed because I didn't get the survery until 4pm and was HEAVILY dopped
Day 1-4, my first poop is 8/10 pain, 2-3 poops later it slightly goes down. First good few times I pooped I painted the bowl red and had blood slightly dripping out until I wiped
Day 5 I stopped all pain meds. Personal choice but I dont even take paracetamol for a sore head never mind everything else they gave me
Day 6-8 at this point there's only blood when I wipe, still get some light blood and mucus on the santiry pad or adult nappys im using
Day 9-16 at this point no blood when wiping, only some when farting and in my poop as the wound continues to heal, scab/clot
Day 17 im not sure what I done but when I pooped I had slightly coloured water and blood on my cheeks. Nothing too bad but enough I thought ah shit, what have I done here then. I was busy in the garden then done the lovers tango so maybe all that stress done something to my wound?
Day 18-now, very light blood on sanitary pad at the end of each day. Still have at least 1 sitz bath daily. Still some blood in my poop and a light amount when I wipe but I believe tje wound I reopened is back to healing.
Overally its the best thing ive done. No longer a fight to poop. The blood can be scary but I dont think people appreciate how active that area is. Sitting, walking, squatting down, bending over, farting, wiping all these can slightly damage the wound and it always looks worse when the blood touches water or toilet paper because their so liquid absorbent
My advice is to persevere. It's a pain in the ass the first few weeks (see what I did there) and sure there's still some mucus and blood, but I look back at what life was like and its abundantly clear life's so much better now
Anyway, this is where im going to be selfish, i wont respond to DMs and doubt ill answer too many questions here. Mentally weve all got our own problems. Im not an expert, a doctor, etc, im just a victim of the anal grapes like you
If you're concerned, see a doctor. There's people on here more than happy to chat with you about all their intricacies but me, ive got my own mental games going on and will over think questions and think I have 2 days to live
If you're due the surgery soon or contemplating it, all I can say is that its the best thing ive ever done and can't wait until im fully healed. Take the time to recover, dont go deadlifting etc. Just let your body do its work and appreciate the results
