Can we all agree never to rent form any property management company that is forcing its residents to pay a monthly “benefits package”. This way they’ll see that their thievery is going to make them lose money.
What they typically offer:
- HVAC air filter delivery
We can get this on our own for waaaay cheaper - Credit reporting (to help build credit from rent payments)
This is a scam - Online payment portals
This has typically always been free
Renters insurance (sometimes required)
Usually, renters insurance through the company you already use for car insurance is way cheaper - Maintenance perks or priority service
- Identity theft protection
They should be protecting my ID on their end anyway - I can decide how I’d like to protect myself otherwise.
This is the biggest scam I’ve seen since I’ve been renting and one that we have the power to push against. An agent called from a property I toured and was very interested in, but I told her that I won’t be leasing it because of the forced “benefits package” they wanted to make me pay every month.
