LOCATION: Flagstaff, AZ.
So I had gotten an email today saying that somebody is trying to trademark the same title of my book that I’ve already copyrighted. I had done the usual of asking who the person is who reached out to me, try to get a link to see if they are legit, find anything to prove that this is a real situation because well, it is my book and quite frankly I would like to keep my title. (It has been published and on market since Aug 13th 2025, I’ve held a copyright since May 2025.)
The link they provided and the company name both are US Trademark X and it pulled up a website that seemed corrupted. Full wingdings and greek alphabet sporadically throughout without readable text, but they insist that they are a legit company and someone is trying to trademark my title. They also had someone call me from a ‘Morgan Patent Law’ but it felt like the same push I have gotten from Vanity publishers about paying a quick fee to get things pushed in my direction and get it over with. Quick done and dirty. Looking up Morgan Patent law gets me a website but it also is incomplete and filled with typo’s and mistakes.
Do I need to be worried? I am planning on making this a full series but it isn’t under the title of the first book. Does this sound suspicious to anyone else because from what I had researched prior usually you don’t get warning if someone is trying to Trademark something you already have copyright over? I can provide screenshots of the emails if that might help. I don’t trust it at all, I have been avoiding Vanity publishers and scams like the plague but I don’t want to get screwed out of my book title and such because someone else came in.
