Props to our boy Patsy for that great line but it doesn’t describe the ending.

Showing Tony‘s brains blown out would have been cliche and exploitive. What Chase did was PURE cinema instead. Using Tony‘s point of view to tie the viewer with Tony at the exact moment of brain death is pure genius that Kubrick would have been proud of. Which makes sense since we know the last episode was inspired by 2001. Kubrick also experimented with subjectivity in that one.

And I dare ask, what other director or film ever used POV this way? a rhythm or pattern created so that we experience the same plunging into darkness as the main character. Using film language to represent the bottomless black void of non-existence.

THAT’S cinema. i know we break Chase’s balls over Many Saints, but a salut to his genius.
