As a CA, I’ve been seeing a recurring issue with GST notices that many taxpayers overlook.

Often, notices are issued on the GST portal (and sometimes via email), but they go unnoticed or are not responded to within the deadline. As a result, the department passes an ex-parte order, and the taxpayer is left with no option but to file an appeal - leading to extra time, cost, and stress.

Some practical tips to avoid this:

• Regularly check your GST portal (not just rely on email alerts)
• Ensure your registered email and mobile number are updated
• Authorize your CA or accountant to monitor notices
• Don’t ignore even small notices - they can escalate quickly
