recently me and my girlfriend have been planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park and honestly it kinda started sucking the fun out of it

like at first it was exciting, sending each other places and hikes and all that, but then it just turned into a mess. stuff saved everywhere, random notes, google maps, tabs we forgot about… every time we tried to “plan” we were basically starting over

we kept tryna figure out like what are we even doing each day and mostly either came up blank or a totally unclear answer

i hit a point where i was just like alright this is dumb

so i ended up building a really simple tool to organize all this stuff in one place. In essence, just somewhere to lay out days and drop in stops so we could see the trip instead of guessing

it honestly made it way less stressful for us

now im kinda wondering if this is just a me problem or if other people run into the same thing planning road trips

how do you guys usually do it? spreadsheets? wing it? something else?

if anyone wants to try what i built im happy to share it, just want to see if it’s actually useful outside of our trip

I don't know how many of you guys prefer going on trips and vacations more than planning them, but I certainly do. To that effect I spent the last couple of weeks building a free travel planning tool.

The idea is pretty simple — instead of opening 15 tabs trying to figure out where to go, what to do, how much it costs, and how to organize it all, this puts everything in one place. You can map out a trip, keep track of activities, and get a clearer picture of your plan without the usual chaos.

I originally made it just for myself because I was tired of bouncing between notes apps, Google Docs, and random spreadsheets. It started pretty basic, but I kept adding features as I ran into my own frustrations while planning.

Right now it’s still early, but it works, and I figured some of you might get use out of it too.

A couple things it does:

  • Helps organize trip plans in a structured way
  • Lets you break things down day-by-day
  • Keeps everything in one place instead of scattered across apps
  • (Working on adding more features + improving the experience)

It’s completely free — no signup walls or anything like that.

I’m mainly posting because I’d genuinely like feedback. If something is confusing, missing, or just straight up bad, I want to fix it.

Lately, I have been searching for some decent websites that would help me plan my trip, but nothing quite caught my eye, as it seems like everything available is too old-fashioned, too complicated, or only offers you some standard itineraries that can be found on any blog.

It just seems to me that no matter how hard I try, every time I want to plan my vacation I spend hours looking through numerous tabs in the browser, fill out multiple spreadsheets, and compare various recommendations from all over the Internet—all in an attempt to come up with something unique and useful.

The thing is that when I look for options among the usual suspects such as Google flights, Skyscanner, online trip itineraries, even chatbot suggestions—none of it gives you what you expect, as everything is either overly generalized or simply lacks coherency.

And once I got sick and tired of it, I decided to play a little with my coding skills and build my own little trip planner based on artificial intelligence which does not offer me a one-way plan, but provides me with a list of things to consider according to what I want my vacation to be: more flexible, diverse, relatively inexpensive, and not packed with activities.

I've been using my little tool for a while now and despite the fact that it does work pretty well, I am afraid it might not be the best there is out there.

So, could anyone tell me about your experience with travel planning websites?

Which do you actually like and use? here is my site: https://www.warblertravel.com/
