Recently diagnosed adult autistic seeking local connections and resources
Hello there,
I’m a recently diagnosed middle-aged adult male with low support needs, and I’m hoping to connect with other autistic adults in the Santa Barbara/Goleta area.
I’m still learning and trying to better understand autistic perspectives, culture, communication styles, and practical ways to manage day-to-day life. I’ve started reaching out to organizations like UCSB Koegel Autism Center and have signed up for some sessions through AANE, but I’d really like to find local connections as well.
I’m especially interested in:
- Local adult autistic peer groups or meetups
- Local therapists or counselors familiar with adult autism
- Local social groups, support groups, or neurodivergent community spaces
- Recommendations from other late-diagnosed adults
- Any local resources that helped you feel more connected or understood
I’m not necessarily looking for anything clinical only. I’d also appreciate casual community recommendations, online groups with local members, or even suggestions for where to start.
Thanks in advance for any guidance or recommendations.
