Changing from Abilify to Fanapt

So I just seen my NP and she and I agreed to switch from Abilify to Fanapt. The Abilify caused akathisia and my last injection is going to be 4 weeks this week. Is anyone here on Fanapt? How is it?

Hi everyone! Hope all is well and that you are doing good. So I just wanted to say that after being on Abilify injections for going on a year, I’ll be switching to a different medication. One that doesn’t cause akathisia. I been dealing with it ever since my NP upped the dose but she won’t lower it and keep me on it but instead she wants to switch it. Thank goodness though bc I don’t want to experience akathisia ever again. I’m curious in what she wants to switch me to. She hasn’t told me in my last session, which was crazy bc she was so adamant about keeping me on the Abilify despite the side effect. I mean, we tried everything..from propranolol, cogentin, to Vitamin B6 and Mirtazipine. The Mirtazipine worked great yet I got a serious side effect. It made me feel ill like I had gotten the flu. And that happened within 3 days of taking it. The Vitamin B6 keeps me up all night and eventually causes neuropathy. Especially at the dose that my NP wanted me to take, 600mg. I guess there were trials with success but I’m not chancing the neuropathy. And cogentin and propranolol doesn’t do much.

So I’m happy that I’m finally going to switch to something better. I just won’t know until Thursday. And she said in our last session that it’s going to be a long process of titrating off the Abilify and onto something different. She did say she had something in mind but when I asked her she went to look but then she came back at me with” well why do you wanna switch your meds now since you been stable for this long” (1year). I should’ve told her that even though I’m stable, akathisia is affecting my daily life. It’s all good. I’m seeing her Thursday. She’s really a nice NP. I just disagree with her methods.
