Initial State (Important)

• Model: LG HU70LS-EU
• Firmware: 03.00.06
• OTA updates: not available
• USB firmware: not detected
• Device is locked to CIS region by default

This lock prevents access to firmware updates available in other regions.

Key Idea

Firmware does exist, but:

• LG OTA servers are region-dependent
• CIS region does not receive updates
• Switching to EU (Germany) exposes the update

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1. Access Service Menu

You need access to EZ-ADJUST / InStart.

Use a virtual remote tool:

• ColorControl

How to get it

1. Open GitHub page for ColorControl
2. Look at the right side of the page → “Releases” section
3. Download:ColorControl.zip

⚠️ Do NOT download from the repository code files — use Releases only

Step 2. Open EZ-ADJUST

Using the virtual remote:

• press ADJ (or IN-START if available)

Navigate to:

EZ-ADJUST → Area Option

Step 3. Change Region (Critical Step)

Default:

Area Option = 3640 (CIS)

Change to:

Area Option = 3122 (EU)

Apply change:

• press Enter / OK
• exit menu

Step 4. Power Cycle

This step is mandatory:

1. Turn off projector
2. Unplug from power for 10–20 seconds
3. Turn it back on

Step 5. Set Germany as Location

Go to:

Settings → Location

Set:

Country: Germany
Postcode: 10115 (any valid German ZIP)

Step 6. Check OTA Update

Go to:

Settings → About → Check for updates

Result:

Update available: 04.00.03

Step 7. Install Update

• Confirm installation
• Wait until it finishes

⚠️ Important:

• Do NOT unplug
• Do NOT interrupt
• Black screen during install is normal

Result

After update:

Firmware version: 04.00.03

Key Findings

1. Device is region-locked (CIS by default)

• CIS → no updates
• EU → updates available

2. Area Option is the real region switch

UI settings alone do nothing:

Language & Country = EU  → NOT enough

Only this matters:

Area Option

3. Germany is a key OTA endpoint

• Germany often receives updates earlier or exclusively in EU
• Spain / CIS may return no updates

4. USB firmware is not required

Once region is corrected:

• OTA works
• manual firmware flashing is unnecessary

Limitations

• Do NOT use firmware from:
  • HU70LA
  • HU85LA
• Cannot:
  • upgrade webOS arbitrarily
  • install custom firmware

Final Workflow

CIS (locked) → change Area Option → EU → set Germany → OTA → update

This is a confirmed working method to unlock hidden firmware updates on LG HU70LS.
