I've been trying to learn linguistics for olympiad competitions, and I've been using Linguistics Olympiad: Training Guide and it's been very helpful. However, I've had a bit of confusion regarding Problem 2.3 about the Tagbanwa language.
From my understanding and solution, it's an abugida system read from bottom to top. However, for word #5, the solution says that it is aligned with transcribed word "E". This makes sense, as all the consonants and vowels are the same... except for the second (from bottom) character, which I thought would be transcribed as "yu" due to the diacritic rather than "ya" (which is the default vowel without any diacritic).
Is there any explanation for this? I understood the entire problem and got the same solutions before checking the answers, but I had to ignore this "exception" in order to do so. Thanks a lot in advance!
