I’m new to this domain and trying to understand how to secure better container and freight rates as an NVOCC. Right now, I’m mostly getting quotes through freight forwarders, but the pricing isn’t competitive enough and margins are very tight.
I want to move towards getting direct rates (both LCL & FCL) instead of depending heavily on forwarders. My focus is mainly on South Asian and Southeast Asian trade lanes.
- How do you approach shipping lines or partners directly for better rates?
- Is it possible to get competitive rates without strong volume initially?
- Any tips on building relationships with carriers or consolidators?
- What strategies helped you improve margins early on?
