Shifting Dilemma for a 24 year old CE student
Hi guys, need help. I’m a 24M CE student who transferred from my old school na toxic yung CE department to a better school after retaking a subject five times, hoping na a fresh environment would help me do better. Right now, I’m failing a subject, which is a prerequisite for my failed subject sa old school (since di creditted) and OJT, and supposedly I’m expected to graduate by the end of December sana. Since last year pa, especially noong nire-retake ko pa yung PRC, I’ve been seriously thinking about shifting to Industrial Engineering because I feel like mas strong ako sa research, reports, organization, analysis, and even business/pitching/selling, while CE’s heavy math and structural subjects give me so much anxiety. I feel like IE might fit me better since it’s a mix of engineering and business and seems less math-heavy compared to CE, which might be better for my mental health.
No matter how much effort I put into CE - new routine, working out every day, studying through YouTube, and asking help from friends pagdating sa exams, hirap pa rin ako and parang hindi pa rin enough. I’m also realizing na even if matapos ko CE, hindi ko gusto yung idea of working in a CE-related field or taking the board exam, and mas gusto ko sana ng career na may possibility for work-from-home or non-CE related work. I only took CE years ago partly because my dad, who is also an engineer, told me it was a good course, but now I feel like this path is no longer sustainable and it’s really affecting my mental health.
I’m scared because I’ve already been in college for around six years, and shifting might delay me by around two more years, so I might graduate at 26 or 27, although accepted ko na rin na delayed na ako either way. I also have strict parents, kaya ang hirap sabihin na this is really not working out for me anymore. I have friends who shifted from CE to IE and seem happier or are doing better now, but I know this decision should still come from what I know about myself. For those who shifted, stayed longer in college, are in CE/IE, or went through something similar, how did you know if shifting was the right choice?
Should I shift to IE and prepare for what’s ahead, or stay in CE kahit sobrang hirap na and walang guarantee na makakapasa ako soon? I just really want to decide properly before the sem ends. Any advice would be appreciated talaga
