The last boots to touch the moon...
Gene Cernan left the last footprints on the moon in December 1972 wearing these “overshoes.”
These were worn over the pressurized boots of the spacesuit and were only put on when exiting the lunar lander. Every other Apollo landing mission (Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16) left these boots behind on the moon as instucted. Cernan and Harrison Schmitt made an “executive decision” to bring their’s home. These boots are on display at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Washington DC.
