Hi everyone, I’m newly pregnant and still figuring out how everything works in BC. My family doctor referred me to Downtown Radiology for my first (dating) ultrasound, but I’ve come across quite a few negative reviews from other pregnant patients, which made me a bit unsure.

I was wondering—am I allowed to book my ultrasound at a different clinic, like Vancouver Ultrasound Clinic, as they have better reviews? Or do I need to go back to my doctor and ask for a new referral to a different place?

I’m very early in pregnancy and still learning how the system works here, so I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences you can share.

Hello, I’d really appreciate some advice. I am in Vancouver, BC. I recently found out that I’m 4 weeks + 4 days pregnant based on home tests and a blood hCG test. I have an appointment with my family doctor tomorrow, but I’m not very familiar with the process (tests, first ultrasound, follow-ups, midwife options, etc.), and to be honest, my doctor hasn’t always been the most helpful.

Do you have any recommendations on what I should ask during the appointment? For example, should I request another blood test to track my hCG levels?

Thank you so much!
