For context, I am a shift lead at a restaurant. I have really bad stomach issues and usually never call out. Tonight, i’ve been up since 1 throwing up + more. I sent my boss a message and this was their response. I’ve tried to call out multiple times due to illness but they never allow it. I’m tired and feel like this is unfair.I work 9-2:30 today and was put on inventory at the last minute. There is another shift lead on shift but she can’t do it apparently.

“I’m sorry you’re not feeling well—that’s tough, especially overnight. That said, you’re responsible for inventory, and giving 4–5 hours’ notice puts us in a very difficult position operationally. If there’s any way you can come in, even for a shortened shift to complete inventory I need you to seriously consider that. We rely on you in this role, especially on critical days like this.

Let me know if you’re able to make it in by 7:30 am.”
