I am 26F, last time I skated was 12+ years ago.
I was working on my axel, starting double practice at the time I stopped, had about 3 years of experience. I was a skate guard for a local outdoor rink during holiday time, I spent probably 20-30 hours a week on the ice.
I’ve seen a lot of instagram videos of people returning to ice and being able to jump/get their skills back within a few sessions.
I bought a new pair of skates, took a big breath, stepped on the ice- immediately was clutching for the walls.
First Session: trying to balance on two feet
Second Session: was able to get some very shakey edges back
Third Session: was so sore from my previous session the day earlier, went right back to my progress from the first session and figuring out how to move
I’ve been practicing my edges but I can’t hold my left outside edge to save my life, crossovers are like a distant fever-dream.
Why can’t I get my skills back? How long does it normally take?
Or should I prepare myself to just relearn all over again?
