As a Malay, I always get bullied because my friends would say Hi Wan so I hated it haha.

But from Google it seems to be a title from royalty/noble, although it's not as important as Tengku for example? But also it seems to stem from the word "pahlawan"?

Are there any ressources to see the historical significance and how the name came to be?
