Everyone Says There’s a Talent Shortage… Until You Ask for Remote Work
Everyone in this industry keeps talking about the “shortage of talented engineers” and how hard it is to find experienced people. But the moment an experienced engineer applies and asks for remote work… silence. Ghosted.
It’s honestly confusing. Firms say they’re desperate for senior talent, yet many still treat remote work like some unreasonable demand in an industry where a huge portion of the work is literally done on AutoCAD, Revit, Teams, PDFs, emails, coordination calls, and cloud servers anyway. Meanwhile, the same companies complain about burnout, retention, and younger engineers leaving the industry altogether.
At this point, it feels less like a talent shortage and more like a flexibility shortage from management. Anyone else experiencing this?
