Water softener recommendations

I just had a guy from reliance come by to talk about water softening. The house currently doesn't have any and y'all probably know how awful our water is so it's time to finally cross that bridge. He said that since the water here is so hard I would need not only the softener, but if I wanted a potable water source I'd also need a reverse osmosis system because the softened water would be too high in sodium to drink. Anyone else have experiences with water softening around here that could share their experience with or without the reverse osmomsis system? Got a guy from Bicks coming by on friday as well so I'll be asking him the same stuff.

Water softeners in an extremely hard water area.

Hi there! So I'm doing a whole lot of home improvement right now and one of them is water softening. My area isn't on a well but the water is extremely hard, 513mg/L apparently. I just had a guy from one company come by and basically tell me that if we installed a softener for a 3 person household we'd need a 30k at least, and the water would have enough sodium in it post softening that he recommended getting a reverse osmosis system to get potable water out of. He also said the unit is likely to break often so I'm better off renting to maintain the replacements. I'm just wondering how true all of that is? Particularly the reverse osmosis thing because that really felt like an upsell.

Couple of questions about a potential Laptop 16 purchase

Hi there! There's probably a resource for this somewhere that I'm just missing but I figured this was an okay place to ask the big questions that I'm having issues finding answers for.

This will be my first FW purchase if I did it and there's a couple things I'm confused on and I'd love some guidance.

  • Do modules for the laptop 13 work on the laptop 16 and vice versa? I'm hoping to buy something eternally upgradable here so don't want to buy this if it'll eventually be deprecated down the road.
  • Are all pieces upgradable or are there bits that need to stay the same?
  • Are there any Linux distros that don't function correctly?
  • If I were to go absolutely ballistic on the specs of the thing, would it be comparable out of the box to say, an MSI Stealth 18?

Thanks for any help!

Looking for a powerhouse, upgradable laptop

The Form

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Of only marginal concern. Hard limit at 5kCAD as that's about what the Framework I'm looking at would cost.
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Open yes, but reticent.
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance, build quality, battery life, form factor.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Little.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. On the larger side
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Yes. Looking for something that can run basically anything.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Ultra and at least 60.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard for coding is certainly a plus, macro capabilities would be mint.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm going out on my own as a multitalent software worker, Video editting, game coding, many things, so I'm looking for something that I can get once and upgrade with the times. The Framework stuff seems good but I wanna know if there's other things out there. Budget is of very little concern as I have a fair lot of starting capital but I'm still not gonna turn down a great deal.
