The holy grail is a thing, and drinking from the cup and passing the tests of the grail embrace gives vampires a few peculiar characteristics. The ones I'm particular interested in are:

  1. He does not need to feed, and his body replenishes his own vitae.
  2. His skin glows in snow-like pallor and glows with something like reflected moonlight, darkest in the full moon and brightest in the new moon.
  3. He can no longer drink Cainite vitae, and all existing blood oaths are broken. Every ingested point of Cainite vitae causes aggravated damage. (The book explicitly points to Cainite vitae, the vampire can still drink from mortal blood or blood from other Grail knights.)

I would then connect this with the Rafastio, a revenant family who originally were witches and hedge mages with these characteristics:

  1. Some of them have become Awakened. (In general, it is highly unlikely for a ghoul or a revenant to become awakened because the vitae suppresses or destroys their avatar. The number of revenants are already very few and becoming a mage revenant makes that extremely rare. Even if they awaken, they will eventually self gigul because their avatar is too addicted. However, the Rafastio is specifically stated to have produced mages and they don't seem to have the same fate as other mage revenants from other revevant families, at least not stated explicitly.)
  2. Rafastio are susceptible to the phases of the moon with new moon making them use Disciplines with harder difficulty and full moon making them easier to use.
  3. Rafastio cannot be Embraced, and doing so kills them and their bodies will dissolve.

A Grail embrace seems to make a vampire closer to its humanity and more "alive", with all of the their body producing its vitae and becoming allergic to the vitae of other vampires. A Rafastio also seems to be more human than other revenants with emphasis on some of their members becoming Awakened, a feat that is incredibly unlikely to happen. And becoming a vampire is also impossible for them.

In both of these cases, the moon has an effect on them. New moon seems to make the vampire exhibit their humanity and "inner light" more, making them lit brightly. While during new moon, the Rafastio have a harder time using Disciplines, again a fact that seems to point to their humanity. While during full moon, the light is dimmer on the vampire and the Rafastio have easier time using Disciplines.

Do you have any theory on the connection of the moon and humanity? Why does new moon make them more human? Is there something in the lore or is this just a coincidence?
