EDIT TO CORRECT:
Conditional GC from 2021-2023! My apologies!

We were surprised by a home visit yesterday morning around 7:30am. My husband was out for a jog, I was headed home from work (overnights), and my step-kiddo opened the door half asleep and confused.

Background context: I’m a US citizen and petitioned my husband through adjust of status process. He’s had his conditional GC since 2018, card expired in 2023, we applied for removal of conditions and received the extension letter; case is still pending.

October 2025 he submitted N400 and that case has been stalled since. Yesterday morning we received a visit from immigration officers wanting to speak with my husband. They framed it as “this is a background check for your citizenship application.” They were friendly and polite during their interview (I watched the home cam footage and hubby told me everything). They asked him questions about his work, as he is self-employed, they asked about our home, if we have any pictures around the house, they came into our bedroom to look around and took photos, asked if we bought the house. They asked if we used a lawyer to fill out our forms (we didn’t bc all our processes have been straightforward and I did thorough research on how to prepare the forms correctly). In short, they were here for about 35+ minutes and left bc my husband had to take my step-kiddo to school.

My husband answered all their questions, explained we’re still getting settled into our house and decorating and that we’re not really pics on the wall type of people. He proceeded to show them our TV’s screensaver which is a photo album of our life together and telling them about the pictures. Hubby apologized for the mess in our room; officers said that’s a good thing. We’re hoping this means the case will start to move along soon.
