German cockroach nymphs keep appearing despite baiting - what should I do next??

Hi all,

I’m looking for advice on dealing with what appears to be a German cockroach issue in my kitchen.

Short recap:

For the last 2–3 weeks, I’ve been finding German cockroach nymphs coming up through cracks/gaps in the caulking behind my sink countertop. I started using gel bait and initially found about 6–7 dead nymphs each morning. That dropped to around 4–5, but this morning I found 9 dead/stunned nymphs near the bait.

I already have an Orkin plan, but they currently only spray once per quarter. What else should I be doing? What should I ask Orkin to do?

Longer recap:

About 7 months ago, my wife found a single adult German cockroach in our upstairs bathroom. She freaked out, we called Orkin and they sprayed the house, we never saw another adult after that.

Then about a month ago, we started seeing carpet beetles coming from behind the stove. I pulled the stove out and found:

  • lots of beetle bodies
  • a roughly 6x6 inch hole in the wall around the gas line
  • dust/debris buildup behind the stove
  • a weird musty smell back there

I vacuumed and cleaned thoroughly and sealed the hole. Since then, I haven’t seen another carpet beetle.

Shortly after that, we started noticing cockroach nymphs appearing from gaps in the caulking behind the kitchen sink, about 6 feet from where the stove was. Even with baiting, they keep appearing nightly.

My current plan is to:

  • pull out the fridge
  • pull out the stove again
  • pull out the washer/dryer
  • inspect for water leaks, droppings, egg cases, or openings in the wall
  • reseal gaps once I know where they’re coming from

Does this sound like a localized infestation, or more likely something coming from another unit/building area? I'm in a row house. Any suggestions on what I should look for or ask Orkin to focus on would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
