Hampton Inn in Hixson being terrible to an unhoused woman
Hampton Inn in Hixson off of Hamill and 153 have some apologizing to do. My friend of ten years has found herself unhoused since November. She was evicted by a slumlord after having no water in her house for a year. She gets a disability check. She has been sleeping at her sister’s house and a friend’s house and sometimes she gets a hotel room when she wants to be alone. She’s been doing this since February. The evening we had the pouring rain last week, I believe that was Wednesday, she attempted to rent a room at Hampton Inn. She’s stayed there a few times the past couple of months. The front desk lady asked her point blank if she was homeless and they don’t rent to homeless people. She replied “no I’m not homeless , I have places to stay and in order to not overstay my welcome I rent hotel rooms to give people a break.” The woman told her that she was lying and that she knew she was homeless. My friend asked her what business of it was hers if she paid for the room and kept the room clean? Keep in mind no complaints have ever been made about her noise level or cleanliness while she stayed at this establishment! The woman did NOT want to rent to her but a man working there finally did allow her to stay. She felt humiliated and dehumanized. The next day as she was leaving the same woman told her “we do not rent to homeless people, this is business and travelers only “ ONCE AGAIN making sure others heard her! This crap hole is way too basic AF for these people to be so arrogant , mean and nasty to someone getting out of the rain for the night and bothering no one. I have a screenshot here of their nasty reply to a person who posted a review concerning what they did. Notice the dehumanizing language and LIES - she does not panhandle and what business is it of theirs if she has a rental home or not? I’m blown away by the unprofessional attitude and mean spirited behavior.
