Hi! I adopted a DLH (3F, spayed) a little over a year ago and just adopted a now 4 month old kitten (female, spayed )about 3 weeks ago. When I got my resident cat, the shelter said she needed to be a solo cat. But in getting to know her she was showing symptoms of signs of significant anxiety like excessive meowing, restlessness, some minimal blood in stool, skittishness, etc. We worked with a vet and got her on Prozac, and then we thought we’d try a kitten to keep her company.

The intro went well, they were okay being around each other within about 4 days and have been able to be unsupervised for about 2 weeks. The resident cat is sometimes grooming and playing with the kitten, but clearly a little wary still and will go from grooming to hissing for seemingly no reason. We get a few hisses a day still from the resident, but the kitten has never hissed or shown anything other than some nerves.

All that to say, can you all weigh in on how this play time looks? Clearly not fighting, but is this playing for both of them? Or does resident cat seem like she’s not having it? Would love to hear your thoughts!! We just want to make sure resident is happy, too.

TLDR: is this playing for both of them or is resident cat not happy?
