- Edit: so I ended up finding an account associated with the name and picture on LinkedIn. It’s definitely a scam. I contacted Venmo and had them deal with it so that I could wash my hands of it.

So I am selling my computer for a pretty high price but reasonable for the computer. I put it on Facebook marketplace and someone said they were interested in it and could pay me upfront before I ship it out. They asked if I wanted to do a bank transfer or Venmo and I am not familiar with bank transfers so I said Venmo. They sent me half the payment on Venmo already and it’s in my actual Venmo account. It’s not just a email. They also said no rush on shipping because I had mentioned I was wrapping up a project on the computer and it wouldn’t ship out till next week and they were okay with that.

Where it starts getting weird is that their Facebook account is from 2013 but there’s almost no content on it. Their Venmo account only has like three friends and then their Instagram account has zero posts 8 following and then like 12 followers, but those 12 followers all seem to be out of country accounts or bot accounts. He said he doesn’t really use Instagram.

What should I do? If he was OK with bank transfer should I do that or is this a scam?
