(little of a rant'y post) I live in rural southern Italy and its a freaken trip man. I followed my wife here, I am from the USA. Where we are living, could be, one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The fields of olives and cork; sheep and cows walking up to you while you stroll around the dirt roads, this affects my brain and heart in ways I have no words for. Such beauty that on some days it hurts my heart. I will probably die here, and hopefully make a small hairy Italian family before that. At the same time its unbearably depressing. I find this tax system deeply unfair, the resources down here suck. I get that if its an emergency they will fly you the nearby region capital but damn took my wife three months get her heart looked at. The hospital is held together by wishes and tape. Idk, make poor regions pay less tax or something... I see why so many here have 'secondary' incomes. Over all I am very happy here, but some days I do feel like a leech, taking advantage of cheap land that the youth here wish they could buy. Just wanted to see if anyone else living in rural Italy felt that way. Grazie per l'ascolto
EDIT: I think some of ya'll are missing the point of what I am saying. Like, no duh the country side will have fewer resources. The tax system is not distributed fairly. If you are going to make everyone pay the same holy high taxes at least make a small effort for the rural communities.
ANOTHER EDIT: When we did get a medical appointment, the service was amazing. I have nothing negative to say about the workers or the attention my wife... eventually got.
