Schedule advice - false starts

Just looking for some advice for my 5.5 month old.

The 4 mo sleep regression hit us hard for almost 8 weeks, with hourly-90 minute wakeups and refusing bassinet transfers.

Suddenly in the couple weeks, he went from waking every hour to connecting sleep cycles and waking 3-4 times per night, even resettling himself occasionally. He is EBF, basically no bottles unless it’s a date night once a month.

We’re in a period of between 3-4 naps, and wake windows are on average 2/1.25/2.5/2.75/3 on 4 naps. For 3 nap days it’s 2.25/2/2.5/3.25.

Bedtime is anywhere from 8- 9:30 pm depending on naps and wake-up is usually 7-8 am. Total nighttime sleep (subtracting wakeups) is 8.5-9.5 hrs currently,

We’ve been dealing with at least 1 or 2 false starts every night and he seems to be lower sleep needs with average naps at 2-2.5 hrs per day even with contact naps.

For the false starts he just screams if dad tries to resettle and needs me.

We are feeding and rocking to sleep and started cribs naps this week to get him used to his own room vs the bassinet in our room. Our dog and our noises seem to wake him up a lot!!

the crib nap is going well for the first nap of the day. Nap 2 is always on the go - stroller/ car seat or carrier and the last cat nap (4) is always a quick contact nap to get us through to bedtime

Any advice to keep this going in a positive direction and keep wake-up at night to a minimum? We have not sleep trained formally, and are not looking for a CIO solution.

Should we drop to 3 naps? Adjust schedules?
