RN TN Visa

I’m Canadian but have lived in the U.S. for the past 12 years and completed nursing school in Oklahoma. I currently hold RN licenses in Oklahoma, Ontario, and just received my New York license this week.

My goal is to move back home to Niagara, Ontario while working in Niagara, New York as an RN. I’ve previously worked in the U.S. on a TN visa (not as a nurse), but I was recently told I now need a VisaScreen certificate through TruMerit/CGFNS, which costs around $740 and adds more time and paperwork.

I’m wondering if anyone has successfully obtained a TN visa as an RN without the VisaScreen certificate, especially if they were educated in the U.S. If so, was there a specific border crossing that seemed more familiar with these cases?

I’m also considering getting a NEXUS card since I’d be crossing daily for work, and I’m curious how that affects the TN process or daily commuting experience.

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. These licenses and immigration requirements are getting expensive, and honestly I’m exhausted from all the paperwork. Alternatively, are there any other visa screen options that are cheaper?
