Anyone taking Valcyte 450mg daily for years?
I’ve been taking Prevymis daily for 10 months since my body hasn’t been able to fight CMV on its own, and Valcyte at the 900mg twice daily level dropped my WBCs to dangerously low levels. I also recently developed disseminated shingles which I learn was very serious for the immunocompromised so I’m taking 400mg Acyclovir twice daily as a preventative measure against future shingles episodes. I already had the Shingrix shots.
My infectious disease doctor thought I should try Valcyte 450 mg daily and stop the Prevymis and the acyclovir. He said the Valcyte at 450 mg will not drop my white blood cells to dangerously low levels and that Valcyte will protect me from CMV and a future shingles episode, it will also protect me from getting cold sores. Lastly, he said if Insurance ever denies Prevymis, which is very expensive, that Valcyte is less expensive. He said that taking one less med is good for the body.
Wondering if anyone has been taking Valcyte 450mg daily for years since they can’t fight CMV.
