Ecotank damaged during shipping

Hi!

(Tldr; in bold)

Last week I scored a second hand Ecotank L4260 for 25€. Less than 3K copies and reportedly the only thing bad with it was a malfunctioning wifi connection, which I managed to fix.

I received it a couple of days ago, took a quick look at it, check it worked ok and didn't find anything off.

Today doing a bit of maintenance I found that one of the panels was bulging out, and after disassembling it I also found that the metal shroud covering the ink tanks is bent, plus a couple of cracks in the plastic case in the same area. This makes me think that it took a serious hit during shipping.

The printer was well protected, but the outer box did had a nasty bump in the same corner where the damage is, and I was careless enough not to notice it when I received it.

So far the printer works great, but should I check for something specific to confirm it is really ok?

Thanks!

I have found a unicorn

I was looking for a camera lens the other day, and right from the start the experience was surprisingly incredible, as the seller even took the lens to a photo shop for them to check it out before shipping it to me.

Fast forward to today, and I open the package to this 🌈

Apparently the lens box was too big for the shipping modality, so they had to fold it and take out the lens itself, which was no problem at all, since they wrap it with a neck warmer that I also got as a freebie. Everything explained in a handwritten note in Spanish, my native language, but I suspect not that of the sender (the Spanish is impeccable, but their profile locates them in Belgium), which is another level of attentiveness.

I already told you via chat, but thank you, kind stranger! :)

Hi!

tldr; I've got some FPC connectors clogged with what seems to be dried soda. I'm gonna attempt to clean it with an ultrasonic cleaner, but I'm unsure on how to proceed for this kind of gunk.

I recently bought a defective camera in hopes I could mend it. Price was about right, visually was great, and I do like tinkering with electronics, so I pulled the trigger.

Fast forward to today, doing a preliminary check I found out that the camera actually works, at least the taking pictures and storing to memory part, and although the shell seemed to be pristine, the buttons and flash release were suspiciously sticky.

I opened it up and discovered its full story. Bottom and back part of the camera took a drink of something nasty at some point, and it got pretty badly into some of the FPC connectors. Luckily the shutter and sensor are completely unscathed, otherwise I know that would've been game over...

Anyway, although the camera itself seems to be working, I can't do much with it, as most of the controls rely on the screen, which seems to be the part that gulped most of the drink. Backlight works, and seems to respond OK to the controls, but there's no image at all, and in fact, when connecting the flex cable that goes directly from the LCD to the daughter board, then not even the backlight works, so I'm guessing there's something shorting out.

I gently scrubbed the contacts with IPA to no avail, so my next step is gonna be fully disassembly the screen's daughter board and thoroughly clean it with an ultrasonic cleaner, but I'm not sure which cleaning solutions should I use in this case. My plan was:

  1. Squirt a bit of Liqui Moly's electronic spray in the FPC contacts + scrub with a soft toothbrush. (This stuff is for cleaning auto electrics, so I'm not sure if it is ok for this).
  2. Give it an ultrasonic bath with a drop of dish soap.
  3. Give it a second ultrasonic bath with IPA.
  4. Wait for it to fully dry and cross my fingers.

Is this a good strategy, or am I missing something? Any advice?

LCD itself seems to have gunk between the layers, so probably I will have to clean that up too, together with the rest of the camera, but if I don't manage to get any image from it first, cleaning the rest is just a waste of time.

Any help would be much appreciated!
