I’m in the construction sector, working as a contractor assisting a senior project manager. I have some experience, but I’m not very familiar with how different organisations manage temporary contractors or handle HR-related matters. I’m currently going through training, with the aim of moving into a junior project manager or analyst role.
Lately, I’ve had the impression that our employer is reducing access to tools, resources, and support across a wide range of areas, without any clear explanation. At the same time, workloads seem to be increasing, with more tasks and responsibilities being assigned. Management behaviour also feels somewhat erratic, and there’s no formal communication or policy that clearly explains these changes.
The general atmosphere among staff feels quite flat, and morale seems low. What’s confusing is that the company appears to be doing fairly well financially.
I find this situation strange, especially since most of us are on short-term contracts (typically under a year). In theory, they could simply choose not to renew contracts or end them more directly. I understand the usual corporate considerations around reputation, but at some point, if they don’t want certain people around, wouldn’t it be more straightforward to communicate that?
I’m trying to understand whether this could be considered constructive dismissal or “quiet firing,” or if it’s just normal organisational behaviour in this kind of setup. Has anyone experienced something similar or can offer some insight?
