Save Files

I want to continue playing Witcher 3 but on a different device (both Windows based). I am currently playing w/ a local install and no cloud syncing.

My assumption is that I can do the following but I do feel a bit worried if it will work or not;

Copy the whole "\Documents\The Witcher 3" folder from my current install and place it in the same location in my new game install - again, my hopes is that this will bring both the savegames as well as settings over to the new install.

Anyone done anything like this? Did it work? Any things to look out for?

TW3: Alchemy Question(s)

I'm slowly making my way through the wonderous world of the Witcher and would love to check with more experienced players if my understanding of how Alchemy works is correct - or not.

GENERAL

Oils, Potions and Bombs can be upgraded from Basic to Enhanced to Superior.
Once I have upgraded one of them the lower level is removed from my inventory and I only have the highest level of the oil/potion/bomb I've crafted.

MEDITATE

When I meditate ALL bombs, potions and oils that are in my inventory - or equipped - refills w/out consuming anything but some alcohol.

OILS

Once an oil is applied its effect is there for 50, or so, strikes with your weapon.

Is the above correct and/or is there something important missing?

Questions:

  1. Is there a way to control the number of potions/bombs that are refilled into your inventory?

  2. Collecting plants after you've maxed out your potions/oils/bombs/(mutagents) is simply for you to sell the plants as there is no longer any need for them?

Thanks all!

TW3 BurnOut

Now let me start by prefacing this with that I LOVE the TW3 game. Love it.

But, I think I went in 'too hard'. I spent 30 hours on the game over a period of a week and while that might not seem like a lot to some of you, averaging about 4 hrs/day on a game is a LOT for me :) I have been up way past my pillow-time this past week.

I hit Novigrad and I feared the worst before even venturing in...

I normally detest larger cities in RPGs (Baldur's Gate in BG1 made me quit the game) - they feel, in lack of a better word, overwhelming.

So I spent a couple of hours in the city doing some quests and selling some gear and then.....logged off.

I am a bit gutted as this is such an amazing game but I think I'll put it aside for a couple of days.

Question: Is this a common thing with people playing the game? To make things EVEN more worse I am somewhat of a completionist and seeing all those "?" on the map simply means that I will have to go there. To all of them.

Anywho, sorry, just wanted to vent a bit. LOVE the game. Will return to it this weekend I think but for now I think I'll hop over to another game to clear my mind a bit. I hear there's a lot of great games releasing tomorrow so might pick one of them up (Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (Switch), Nitro Gen Omega and Directive 8020).

See you on the path....I will be back on it.

What 'normally popular' RPGs did you end up not liking/quitting?

What RPGs that seems very popular did you simply bounce off/didn't like?

For me, it's;
- Any Dragon Quest game (too childish),
- Any FF game (apart from tactics),
- Any Ys game (big meh),
- Sea of stars (just bad in every way),
- Xenoblade Chronicles (if ever there was 'lipstick on a pig')

But how about YOU? Let it all out... No judgement.

It just get better and better

I'm maybe 20 hours into TW3 so far.
I'm taking my time and exploring as I go. Leave the beaten path.

There are quest lines that absolutely had me go 'wow...' and it seems like at every turn something new opens up. In the first screenshot her I am just about to venture into my first larger town/city and it feels like the world opened up even more. I'm trying to play as blind as possible and not reading any spoilers and accepting any 'wrong' decisions I make.

I'm not very 'good' at the gameplay (had to reduce the difficulty to babymode for the last boss in the Darkness questline) but I'm enjoying reading the beastiary and understanding what spells/oils I should use against a certain beast.

One thing I'm severely lacking in is gold though. I could only afford the chest piece of the set sold in the starting area and I'm constantly around 0-100 gold. I try to sell swords and armor to smiths but even so most swords sell for under 10 gold. Will try to do some contracts maybe.

Anywho, amazing game. Feel so blessed to experience it for the first time and and excited to see where my patch will lead me.

I mean....this game...is amazing....

First time playing TW3 and...well...wow.

It really feels like I am IN the world and the writing is absolutely top-notch.

I wasn't maybe too keen on the 'Wandering through Darkness' quest - it dragged on forever lol but even then I felt connected to the world and people around me.

Just embarked on the Bloody Baron questline and can't wait to to see where that takes me.

I've played a LOT of RPGs but I gotta say...this one feels special.

Feeling grateful

Maybe it's the scotch but I find myself feeling grateful tonight.

Grateful that I have the ability to sit in a comfortable chair, play a fantastic game and have a belly full of food.

Also grateful for the kind answers I've received here as I start my Witcher journey. You're a good lot.

I hope everyone out there stay safe and warm and find joy in their life.

I'm about 4-5 hours into The Witcher 3 - and I am loving it.
Not really having played the previous games, if that's relevant, I do have some things that I haven't figured out yet;

1) Storage/Inventory

I notice that things I carry have a weight so I am assuming that at some point I will not be able to pick up and carry more stuff around with me?

If so, will there be some storage chest to place items in?
1b) If so, can I keep all crafting material in such a chest and it will still be recognized/used when crafting even if I don't have it on me (one of my favorite feature from many RPGs)?

2) Quest Log icons
I notice that in my quest log there is often a yellow "!" next to the quest - some completed ones and some open ones. Any idea what that means?
(I notice one quest that have two small grey icons on it (a wolfs head and a question mark - not sure what that symbolizes either).

3) Alchemy

I have picked a buunch of plants but have yet to come across a place where I can create potions. Is that something that will come later in the game? (I'm still in the starting area, almost lvl 3).

4) The RB

I'm playing using a controller. All works well but I don't know what the RB is supposed to do. The LB brings up a 'quick access menu' where I can pick spells and according to the settings RB is "Use quick access item" - no idea what that is (consumables are consumed with up/down buttons).

Nothing really seems to happen when I click/hold it.

5) Meditation

I understand that when meditating is replenishes my health and potions - which is great. Is there any downside to meditating though? Is there some calendar ticking away in the background and I might be 'too late' for some things due to having mediated?

Right now I am trying to get to lvl 3 or 4 before I take on the Griffin so I'm entertaining myself by visiting all the "?" locations :)

Thanks for entertaining my n00b questions.

I don't get to play a lot of hours/week as an adult with adult stuff going on so when I commit to a longer RPG I want to be pretty confident that I will enjoy it.
I gave both W3 and BG3 about 8-10 hours each and while both are fantastic games on their own I have to say The Witcher 3 really stood out.

Love W3's story, characters, visuals and combat - and that's from someone who didn't like Witcher 2 and is not a huge Witcher fan in general (I think I've watched one full season of the TV show and haven't read any books).

So while BG3 is great I think that, subjectively, W3 is a more engaging and fun RPG.

If you've played both which one do YOU prefer?

Finally getting into Witcher 3

I know I'm years and years late to this party but this weekend I ended up starting playing Witcher 3 and, wow, what a game!

Granted, I'm only a couple of hours into it but the game is equally fun, beautiful and gripping.

There goes my plans for cleaning out the garage today :D

Ok, now back to tracking down Yennefer....

Ever since I updated to the latest rc I am unable to add updates/patches to games in Eden. I can browse to them but when I select one I am just returned to Eden without the selected update installed.

This started happening in this rc after I once deleted/deactivated an addon for a game. Doing that seems to have disabled adding addons to ANY game.

I am now forced to use Citron.

After completing Swordhaven I hopped around between a few games and decided to give Wartales a chance - again.

I had initially dismissed the game pretty early on as a simplistic 'just walking and fighting'-kinda game and even though you do a lot of both of those thing the game is just straight up REALLY fun to play.

There's enough armor/weapon/crafting/etc things to occupy me without it ever feeling like a chore. The world is wide open and you can essentially be as good or bad as you want 🙂

I've been glued to my devices this Saturday ("just one more bounty") more so than usually.

Now I do know that there isn't really an 'ending' to the game - you essentially wrap up all regions and quests and then decide to stay in the world or leave.

I'm playing the Switch version which probably is the worst option there is (even though the launch bugs appear to all be patched these days) as I won't have access to all the mouthwatering DLCs that the PC version received. But, even though emulating it on my device works fine the UI/UX gets very wonky to the point where I bounced off that option pretty quick.

It is also a surprisingly 'chill' game - especially for a game where you are a blood-dripping mercenary with the option to lean into cannibalism if supplies runs dry.

Pop in for 20-30 mins, do a quest, explore a new area, make a bit of medicine. Love it.

Anywho, if you like turn-based RPGs with a lot of freedom in choices and roaming give this gem a chance if you haven't already 🙂
