After getting pets, my standards for living room furniture got way more practical.
I used to care about the color, the style, and whether something looked “elevated.”
Now my first thoughts are: Will it collect pet hair like crazy? Will it get scratched up easily? Will it feel sturdy if my pet jumps on and off it? Are the coffee table corners going to be a problem?
I’m starting to feel like a pet-friendly living room can’t be so delicate that you’re nervous every day. The sofa needs to be comfortable and durable, the coffee table is probably better with rounded edges, and there has to be enough storage, because pet stuff and random little things pile up so fast.
Has anyone with cats or dogs managed to keep their living room looking nice? When you picked your sofa, what mattered most to you?
Do you care more about how the sofa looks, or whether it’s comfortable enough that everyone actually wants to hang out there?
